Project 1: Defining And Documenting A Project
Taylor's Management has approach our project management company with an idea of a Recreation District. Due to the urgency to complete it for the upcoming Architectural Workshop to be held at the University compound in 2018. In order not to interfere with campus activities during the semester, a proper planning needs to be done. The recreation district will be built at 3 different sites identified to be the most suitable locations:
Our site is located at an opened parking area next to the commercial block. Listed below are the deliverable of the design proposal:
-
Establish a fictional Project Management Company (PMC), with a NAME, clear ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE and ORGANIZATIONAL TYPE.
-
Produce an advisory document highlighting the viability of executing the given projects based around the adaptive re-use of energy (solar/hydro/wind) and rainwater harvesting in place of conventional systems for irrigation.
-
Design recreational and operational facilities, advising on the pros and cons of your proposal in regards of the site locations and conditions.
-
Identify the strategic planning and the criteria for the space allocation including appropriate facilities to be provided, street furniture and suitability of materials for the project assuming a diversified type of users.
-
Produce a design analysis, success criteria, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), simple Gantt Chart documenting the timeline for your project.
-
Produce relevant 2D & 3D drawings to explain your project. Models are not required.
-
Ensure that the running cost of your finished project is lower than that of a standard building
-
Provide 1 suitable case study for your project to drive from as precedent studies.
The project should comply with the following Project requirements:
-
Maximum land size: as per site given by client
-
Usage of reusable energy sources
-
Site layout and landscaping

Project 2: Documenting a Medium sized Project
Our task is to document your own Design Studio Project from the point of view of a Project Manager. Document (Written report, annotated visual images) will be in 4 Components in total:
-
Introduction of Project (Identifying clients, stakeholders, objectives and goals)
-
Design Analysis, picking up issues of Design Suitability and Project Viability and specifically related to your design. (Note: This is to be in essay format, schematic diagrams, sketches and drawing where necessary).
-
Risk Analysis, and Maintenance Strategy (to achieve the identified success criteria and project deliverables). This must be in a table format.
-
Success Criteria, WBS, Gantt Chart (showing the measurable success criteria for the overall implementation strategy, analysis of critical paths, floats, plotted against time). This chart will highlight Project Deliverables
